See how CR Marine Risk helped one of our monitored vessels identify and evade dangerous weather on a recent trip.
The pleasurecraft On Her Time set out from Ocean City, MD on a fishing trip at 3:30am the morning of July 20th, 2024.
They reached their destination (50 nautical miles SSE of Ocean City) at 6:00am and began trolling until the afternoon.
When they began their trip, weather reports forecasted decent and safe weather.
Around 3:00pm, a large storm system started to develop West of Ocean City that was going to impact On Her Time on its journey home.
On Her Time uses SiriusXM weather radar, but the captain did not see it coming while he was fishing.
Because On Her Time had installed the CR Marine Risk telematics solution, our Risk Management team saw the storm headed their way and was able to help the boat get home.
Our system detected the storm early via weather analysis for our entire portfolio.
We texted On Her Time of the storm. They wrapped their trip early and went home.
We called the captain help navigate around the storm/lightning and monitored their trip.
On Her Time made it home early and safely. Several non-CR Marine Risk customers in the area did not get the warning and had to run directly through the storm to get home.
Several boats reported hull damage that will need repair, and many others will see significant wear & tear to their hull and engine for braving those elements.
